WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING? As Mechanical Engineer you own the mechanical engineering function of the plant. The job breaks into four areas: maintenance and reliability of production machinery; operation and upkeep of plant utilities and services; engineering improvement and capital projects; and equipment safety, standards and documentation. Day to day this means planning and executing preventive maintenance, attending breakdowns and establishing why they happened, controlling spares and managing vendors, and keeping equipment records accurate. Over a longer horizon it means lifting equipment availability year on year, bringing down maintenance and energy cost per tonne, specifying and installing new machinery as capacity grows, and building the capability of the technicians and contractors working under you. You will work closely with Production, Quality, Stores and Purchase, and will report to the Plant Head. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR. An engineer who treats machinery as something to be understood, not merely repaired. Diagnostic thinking under production pressure, with the discipline to find and close root cause. Organisation and self-motivation; you are able to act on your own initiative to solve problems. High integrity, hands-on approach, and willingness to put in extra effort to deliver results. Comfortable taking responsibility for plant assets, maintenance spend and equipment safety. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE. B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. 4-5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a continuous process manufacturing plant. Experience in polymer recycling, chemicals or process manufacturing will be preferred. Working command of rotating equipment bearings, gearboxes, couplings, shaft alignment, mechanical seals, pumps, blowers and drives. Exposure to extrusion and pelletizing equipment — screw and barrel wear, screen changers, dies and cutting systems — will be preferred. Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs and equipment manuals, and to supervise fabrication and erection work against them. Practical understanding of preventive maintenance planning, spares control and maintenance budgeting. Working knowledge of plant utilities — chilling, cooling water, compressed air, pumping and effluent handling systems. Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics and basic electrical interfaces of process machinery. Hands-on experience with ERP-based maintenance and procurement workflows, and working Excel capability. Willing to be based at the plant and to support three-shift operations, including call-outs for breakdowns. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES. Equipment Ownership & Reliability. Own the condition, availability and output rate of all mechanical assets across the company. Set and hold uptime targets for each line; investigate every deviation to root cause and close it permanently. Manage wear-driven consumables as a planned discipline — screws, barrels, screen packs, dies, cutter blades, granulator knives, screens, liners and wear plates. Establish inspection, lubrication, vibration and temperature monitoring regimes so that failure is anticipated rather than discovered. Maintain equipment to the performance parameters agreed with suppliers and challenge any sustained shortfall against them. Maintenance Systems & Documentation. Own and continuously refine the preventive maintenance calendar covering every machine and utility in the plant. Maintain equipment history cards, downtime logs with cause classification, and maintenance cost records in the ERP on a real-time basis. Move the plant progressively from breakdown-driven to predictive maintenance as equipment data accumulates. Draft, implement and periodically review maintenance SOPs, checklists and safe work procedures for each machine. Keep drawings, manuals, equipment data sheets and as-built records complete, current and accessible. Publish monthly MIS on availability, downtime, maintenance cost and spares consumption. Utilities & Support Systems. Operate and maintain process chilling, cooling water, compressed air, water supply and material conveying systems. Ensure water and air quality meet the requirements of the process and the equipment. Support mechanical upkeep of the effluent treatment plant in coordination with the operator. Track utility consumption per tonne of output and drive it down through operating and engineering changes. Spares, Vendors & Cost Control. Define and control the critical spares list, balancing inventory carrying cost against downtime risk. Raise timely indents through the ERP and follow them through to receipt in coordination with Purchase and Stores. Develop and maintain a reliable local base for fabrication, machining, rewinding and specialist repair. Evaluate quotations technically, negotiate on scope, and hold vendors to defined workmanship standards. Own the maintenance budget, monitor spend against it and account for variances. Improvement & Capital Projects. Identify and execute modifications that raise throughput, reduce energy, cut changeover time or extend component life. Prepare technical and commercial justification for replacement and expansion capital expenditure. Specify new equipment, evaluate suppliers, and take part in inspection, acceptance testing and commissioning. Supervise erection, alignment and trial runs of new equipment and its interface with civil, piping and electrical work. Capture the learning from each significant failure into a design, procedure or specification change. Safety, Compliance & People. Enforce lockout-tagout, work permits, machine guarding, safe isolation and use of PPE without exception. Ensure statutory compliance for pressure vessels, lifting equipment and other regulated assets, including testing and certification. Keep maintenance documentation audit-ready for internal, statutory, customer and management system audits. Supervise, train and appraise maintenance technicians, fitters and contract personnel; build multi-skilling and back-up for critical skills. Build shift-level operator competence in basic equipment care, cleaning and early fault detection. Maintain 5S and housekeeping standards in the maintenance workshop and around all equipment. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES. Strong diagnostic and root cause analysis capability. Discipline in record-keeping, documentation and follow-through. Clear direction and supervision of technicians, operators and contract manpower. Commercial judgement in repair-versus-replace and spares stocking decisions. Ability to coordinate across Production, Quality, Stores, Purchase and Projects. Composure and problem-solving under time pressure during breakdowns. ERP and systems oriented, with strong MIS capability. Integrity and reliability in handling company assets and maintenance spend. WHAT CAN WE OFFER? Full ownership of the mechanical function of a modern recycling facility, with direct exposure to imported process equipment and international suppliers. A clear path of growth into Maintenance Head and wider plant engineering responsibility as the facility scales. This position is a full-time position at a competitive salary. Your work location would be Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
