Role Overview. The Production Head is responsible for all production floor activities at Placebo Fabtech's manufacturing facility, from raw material issue to finished fabricated structure ready for inspection and dispatch. The role owns the execution of the production plan across every process stage cutting, fit-up, welding, straightening, blasting, metallising, painting and trial assembly and is accountable for output, productivity, first-time-right quality, shop-floor safety and workforce discipline. Reporting to the Plant Head and working in close coordination with PPC, Quality Control, Maintenance and Stores, the Production Head will run the shop floor as a disciplined, multi-shift operation, build supervisory capability, and consistently deliver railway girders, highway structures, pre-engineered buildings and heavy industrial fabrication to schedule and specification. Key Responsibilities. Production Floor Management. Own day-to-day execution of the production plan across all bays and process stages: cutting (CNC plasma / oxy-fuel), edge preparation, fit-up, welding (SAW / FCAW / GMAW / SMAW), straightening, blasting, metallising, painting and trial assembly. Ensure production is carried out strictly as per approved drawings, cutting plans, WPS and painting specifications. Monitor hourly and daily progress on the floor; identify and clear bottlenecks, idle time and process imbalances in real time. Ensure proper piece-mark identification, traceability and stage-wise movement of components through the shop. Schedule Execution & Output Delivery. Deliver daily, weekly and monthly production targets (tonnage and shipping marks) as committed in the master production schedule. Participate in daily production review with PPC; report plan-versus-actual and commit recovery plans for slippages. Sequence work to release complete shipping marks for inspection and dispatch rather than partial progress across many marks. Flag drawing, material, consumable or manpower constraints early to PPC, Stores and the Plant Head. Manpower, Shift & Contractor Management. Plan and deploy welders, fitters, grinders, helpers, operators and crane crews across shifts to meet output requirements. Run sustained two-shift operations with clear shift handover, shift targets and supervisory accountability. Manage contract labour and piece-rate contractors: deployment, output measurement, quality of work and rate certification. Drive welder productivity and deposition rates; track output per welder / per contractor and act on underperformance. Maintain discipline, attendance and conduct on the floor; enforce company rules fairly and consistently. Quality Coordination & First-Time-Right. Ensure work is offered for stage inspection (fit-up, weld visual, NDT, dimensional, blast profile, DFT) only when it is complete and self-checked. Coordinate with QC) for inspection scheduling and timely clearance. Own closure of NCRs, rework and repairs on the floor; implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Drive first-time-right culture; track and reduce rework and repair percentage. Ensure production supervisors maintain accurate fabrication records required for inspection documentation. Machines, Equipment & Consumables. Ensure correct operation and care of cutting machines, welding equipment, cranes, positioners, blasting and painting equipment. Coordinate with Maintenance on preventive maintenance schedules, breakdown response and equipment availability. Control consumption of welding consumables, gases, abrasives, grinding wheels and paint against norms; prevent wastage and pilferage. Recommend tooling, fixtures, jigs and equipment improvements to raise productivity and quality. Safety & Housekeeping. Ensure safe working practices on the floor: hot work, crane and rigging operations, working at height, confined spaces, blasting and painting. Enforce PPE usage and permit-to-work systems; stop unsafe work immediately. Maintain 5S and housekeeping standards in all bays; ensure clear material flow and storage discipline. Lead incident reporting and investigation for production-area incidents in coordination with HSE. Reporting & Continuous Improvement. Maintain and sign off Daily Production Reports; ensure production data (operation confirmations, tonnage, manpower, consumables) is captured accurately in the ERP. Track and report shop-floor KPIs: tonnage per shift, MT per man-day, welding productivity, rework %, machine utilisation and WIP. Drive productivity and cycle-time improvement through lean practices, layout optimisation, fixtures and method improvements. Develop supervisors and bay in-charges; build a succession pipeline for critical floor roles. Qualifications & Experience. B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering (Diploma holders with exceptional hands-on fabrication experience may be considered). 1015 years of experience in heavy structural steel fabrication, of which at least 45 years leading a production floor as Production Manager / Production Head / Shop In-charge. Mandatory: hands-on shop-floor experience in fabrication of railway bridge girders, highway steel structures, plate girders / box girders, pre-engineered buildings or similar heavy welded structures. Strong practical knowledge of welding processes (SAW, FCAW, GMAW, SMAW), fit-up, distortion control and straightening; ability to read and enforce WPS / PQR / WPQ. Experience of working under third-party inspection (RDSO / RITES / TPI / client QA) and ITP-driven stage inspections. Experience of managing large workforces including contract labour and piece-rate contractors in multi-shift operations. Exposure to ERP-based production reporting. Welding certification (IWE / IWT / CSWIP / AWS-CWI) is an added advantage. Skills & Competencies. Hands-on, floor-present leadership style with strong command over supervisors, welders and contractors. Ability to read fabrication drawings, cutting plans, weld maps and painting specifications accurately. Strong understanding of fabrication productivity drivers, sequencing and bottleneck management. Quality and safety mindset; unwilling to trade specification compliance for output. Problem-solving under pressure; quick, practical decisions on the floor.
