Job Title: Intern (Software Engineer) Company: The Explore Coalition Job Category: Machine Learning Roles & Responsibilities: * Set up and maintain our AI stack on Ubuntu, using Docker, Ollama or vLLM, Qdrant and Open WebUI * Build document search (RAG) that answers only from approved sources and always cites them * Build monitoring and alerting for lab and site sensors, and dashboards for the data * Write data pipelines that turn instrument exports, such as battery cycler data, into clear plots and reports * Create and maintain the standard Kudu AI software image, so every unit starts identical * Design for offline operation, with updates delivered by USB or a brief secure sync * Build in privacy and security from the start, in line with POPIA Work Location: In person Work Location: East London, EC, South Africa Availability: Full time

Job title: Intern (Software Engineer – AI Systems) Company: The Explore Coalition (Kudu AI) Location: East London Job type: Learnership Salary: R3000 * A degree in computer science * Strong Python skills * Confident with Linux, Docker and Git * Experience building with large language models or other machine learning models * An understanding of APIs, databases and basic networking * Hands\-on experience with RAG, vector databases or running local LLMs * Computer vision (YOLO, OpenCV) or speech (Whisper) * Experience with sensor data, time\-series databases or industrial protocols such as Modbus * Experience with GPU drivers (CUDA or ROCm) * A scientific or lab background Key Skills: Machine Learning, Python, Computer Vision Salary: ZAR 3000 - 3000 per monthly
